Sometimes, these read count datasets are shared publicly with research papers. But not always. And even if they are shared, they often come with little explanation about how they were generated.

If you want to truly understand the data, you often need to go back to the raw sequencing data and analyse it yourself.

Raw data usually comes in the form of FASTQ files, which are often available from public databases like NCBI GEO or SRA.
